While the surgery itself is remarkably quick—typically taking only 10 to 15 minutes—pre-operative preparation and post-operative monitoring mean you will spend a few hours at the clinic. Here is a detailed breakdown of the surgical timeline.
1. Pre-Operative Preparation (1 to 1.5 Hours)
Upon arrival at Suman Eye Clinic, you will be directed to our daycare preparation lounge. The pre-op steps include:
- Dilation Drops: Multiple rounds of eye drops are applied over 45–60 minutes to dilate your pupil.
- Numbing Drops: Topical anesthetic drops are applied to completely numb the eye.
- Health Checks: We monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar to ensure safety.
2. The Surgical Procedure (10 to 15 Minutes)
Once prepared, you will be guided to the sterile operation theatre. The surgeon uses high-frequency ultrasound waves (phacoemulsification) to fragment the cloudy natural lens and insert a premium foldable artificial lens (IOL) in its place. The procedure is stitchless and bloodless.
3. Post-Operative Monitoring (30 to 45 Minutes)
After the lens is implanted, you will rest in our recovery lounge. Our medical team will check the eye, fit you with protective sunglasses or an eye shield, and provide you with post-op drop instructions. Once confirmed stable, you are discharged to return home with a companion.
